At the heart of Hirundo Maris’ gorgeous mix of folk and early music is the angelic voice and shimmering harp of Arianna Savall. The lyrical brilliance of traditional song performed on folk instruments gives an alluring sound.
The group was founded in 2009 by Petter Udland Johansen and Arianna Savall - daughter of Hespèrion XX founder, conductor and viol master, Jordi Savall. It regularly performs at Europe’s major music festivals including Stanser Musiktage and the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, with a repertoire from the Medieval to Baroque and its own original compositions.
Chants du Sud et du Nord, Hirundo Maris’ 2012 debut recording on the exclusive ECM label won international acclaim. Many of the album’s traditional Catalan and Norwegian ballads arranged by Savall and Johansen, feature in this Asian debut concert.
Hirundo Maris, meaning sea swallow, reflects time-honoured links between the Mediterranean and Nordic cultures. Like the nomadic bird that travels through generations, its music soars on currents linking the North and South.
Enjoy Sephardic, Catalan, Spanish, Celtic and Norwegian melodies, crystalline voices and heartfelt playing. Embark on a beautiful musical journey through time and space.
