Michelle Dorrance is one of today’s most sought after tap dancers and choreographers. She’s guest-starred at the Winter Olympics and Cannes Film Festival, and her staggering list of awards includes the MacArthur 'Genius Grant', a Bessie and – following in the footsteps of legends like Merce Cunningham – the prestigious Jacob's Pillow Dance Award. Dorrance set up her own dance company in 2011, winning a Bessie Award with its first show, for "blasting open our notions about tap" according to the jury citation. She re-invigorates a uniquely American dance form by blending the musicality of tap with the choreographic intricacies of contemporary dance.
