Description
EXCLUSIVE ASIAN PREMIERE "The most resonantly topical and emotionally engaging play of this election year."The New York Times on Hungry “DELIGHTFUL & COMPELLING!” New York Magazine on What Did You Expect? Powerful drama from Tony Award-winning playwright and director Richard Nelson Feb 25 & 26 Experience the entire trilogy in one day INTRODUCTION The Gabriel family lives in Rhinebeck, a rural suburb in New York. During the presidential election year, they gather around the table to discuss important issues about their lives, their joys and disappointments. They worry about being left behind in a fast changing world and feel the creeping gentrification of their neighbourhood. What will go and what will stay? Tony Award-winning playwright and director Richard Nelson sets the three plays on their actual premiere nights respectively, tracking the lives of the Gabriels throughout the US presidential election period. Hungry, the first play, introduces the family members who gathered to mourn the death of the patriarch Thomas Gabriel. The second play What Did You Expect? opens in September 2016. Women of a Certain Age, the exquisitely moving finale, is similarly set in the kitchen as the Gabriels await the election results on November 8, 2016, the play’s opening night. Each of the three plays captures a special moment in the course of eight months, with the play cycle culminating on US election results day. The Gabriels glows with flawless acting and intelligent dialogue, peppered with wit and wisdom. A new American classic. New York's Public Theater is famed for presenting quality works which have won 47 Tonys, 167 Obies, 52 Drama Desk Awards and 4 Pulitzer Prizes. The Public’s musical Hamilton has won 11 major Tony awards in 2016. See the whole trilogy in the course of one day, or as individual, stand-alone dramas.
