Description
We are thrilled to announce the one and only magical show for Amiina from Iceland. The string quartet of Sigur Rós will be performing an original live score to the 1913 film “Fantômas”, as well as performing their most popular songs from their highly acclaimed records. Amiina's debut album, Kurr (2007), was performed on a disparate jumble of instruments – musical saws, kalimbas, music boxes and seemingly anything that could be plucked, bowed or beaten on – resulting in a work that ebbed and flowed “in a strange, powerful place between sophistication and innocence,” according to The Guardian. Building further on this with their album “ Puzzle”, amiina started to feature heavier use of electronics, but amiina's long-standing fondness for zero-g melodies and open-minded instrumentation, however, continued. The band released “The Lighthouse Project” in 2013, a work centred around some performances given in Icelandic lighthouses. In between work with amiina and growing ever larger families, band members have also kept themselves busy, recording or touring with other artist such as Sigur Rós, Yann Tiersen, Spiritualized, Efterklang, Damien Rice, Yukihiro Takahasi, Canon Blue, Pétur Ben, Ben Forst Tilbury, Borko, múm, Jónsi & Alex, Kippi Kaninus, adhd, Moses Hightower and Sin Fang to name a few. At present the band counts four people -María Huld Markan Sigfúsdóttir, Sólrún Sumarliðadóttir, Magnús Trygvason Eliassen and Guðmundur Vignir Karlsson (aka Kippi Kaninus). With their latest album “Fantômas”, amiina shows a darker side, creating an amazing soundtrack for the French silent movie film from 1913. The score was originally commissioned by Yann Tiersen, who curated the event, for a performance in Theatre du Chatelet in Paris in 2013 for the anniversary of the Fantomas films. To follow up on this release, the band plans to focus on performing the whole soundtrack to the film as their live set this year.
