Co-presented by Hong Kong Arts Centre and Videotage, “Aspirations of Flight” brings a night of short films that present a collection of experimental works to consider ‘flight’ in both the literal and symbolic sense. Addressing flight, the films employ formal approaches such as depictions of modes of transportation, aerial shots, and animations in the bird's eye view. In relationship to these elements, the subject matters in the works deal with tension, impermanence, or acts of transgression and defiance to flee elsewhere. With the permission of the filmmakers, the collection of shorts ranges from completed projects from recent years to current works in progress to display experimental films in various states as they find form, or are re-contextualized amongst the other works. Works included are from artists Chen Yu Chen, Milad Mozari, Samuel Swope, Amanda Vanvalkenberg and Calum Walter. The program will entail the screening of the works followed by a Q&A with the artists.
