Potted Venini, 2017, Oil on linen, 130 x 170 cm
The exhibition will open on 26 May and close on 22 July 2017, I am hoping you would be able to list or even do an interview on our artists or exhibition, so we can support the artists and introduce their wonderful works to a wider audience.
Sara Berman was a very successful fashion design, who puts her label on hold and went back to Slade School of Art to complete her Master of Fine Arts, UCL where she wasawarded the Audrey Wykeham prize for painting. Berman has built a unique oeuvre comprising textile sculptures, paintings and works on paper. Her deep interest in the dialogue between design, commerce and identity has inspired such connections within her work and practice as she explores the tension between authenticity and construct. Her works have been widely recognized in London since graduation.
Big Cactus, Little Cactus, 2017, Oil on linen, 120 x 220 cm
‘Big Cactus, Little Cactus’ consists of new paintings, including three triptychs, a diptych, a pair of single paintings to be viewed together, and ink drawings depicting furniture design classics, objects, potted plants and patterned floors juxtaposed with glimpses of an individual person. The painterly assemblages evoke the surreal, an altered perspective of a domestic interior. Reality is both suspended and anchored as familiar desirables are abstracted in a game of narrative trickery.
To celebrate the opening of the solo exhibition ‘Big Cactus, Little Cactus’, our gallery would like to invite you to the following events. It will be a great opportunity to see what is happening in the Hong Kong art scene and meet some interesting artists and collectors! We would be delighted if you could join us.
