M+ Summer Camp is a youth-targeted initiative organised by M+. Over the past two summers, the camps have each attracted one hundred students from different schools and backgrounds but with the same interests and passions. The four-day summer camp offers young people an opportunity to interact with instructors and collaborators who are practitioners of visual art, design, architecture, illustration and moving image. Exploring, experimenting, playing and working together, we help participants nurture their creativity, critical thinking and confidence. Examining creative practices and immersing themselves in cross-disciplinary topics, participants embark on a journey to discover new ways of thinking, and new ways of experiencing the world around them. Under the theme "Nerve", this year’s M+ Summer Camp encourages young people to open up to the world in new ways and use all of their senses to respond to and engage with their surroundings. Through a wide range of activities we help participants develop new ways of seeing, expand and transform their experiences into creativity. Working closely with our instructors and exploring different types of creative expression, participants learn how to build connections with the arts, with people and with the world around them. The word ‘nerve’ also suggests sensitivity – an essential trait for all forms of creativity, and one that makes us receptive to our surroundings – and courage. The aim of the camp is to nurture participants’ curiosity, encourage them to ask questions, help them embrace uncertainties, and dare to be different. Camp activities include indoor and outdoor workshops, talks, sharing sessions, and performances conducted in small groups or collectively. Participants can choose workshops according to their own interests and shape their own camp experience. M+ Summer Camp welcomes young people who are adventurous, open-minded and curious about the world around them. No prior knowledge of arts and crafts is needed.
