8 OVER 8 explores the manifestations of Hong Kong culture upon the experiences and perspectives of 8 emerging Hong Kong artists based in London. The number ‘8’ is the overarching motif that brings together the 8 unique artists, one that carries deep-rooted meanings in Hong Kong and in the Cantonese language. The multifaceted experience of a contemporary artist living abroad produces a diverse range of responses, expressed in various art forms such as painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and installation. Together, these artists reflect upon the aspects of Hong Kong that gives them a sense of belonging to their home: its architecture, lifestyle, its distinct sense of humour, and of course, the memories.
