Harbour Arts Sculpture Park brings together sculptures by internationally renowned contemporary artists to create Hong Kong's largest open-air gallery of monumental public art. This free exhibition of museum-quality works, curated by Fumio Nanjo (Director of Mori Art Museum, International Director of Art Education at Hong Kong Art School) and Tim Marlow (Artistic Director at the Royal Academy of Arts) will dramatically transform the landscape of Tamar Park and the Central Harbourfront, offering a unique opportunity to experience world-class art set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline. Cementing Hong Kong’s position as a global arts player, the exhibition will be accompanied by a diverse and extensive program of workshops and educational activities, demonstrating that art is for all ages and interests. “Public Art Power: The Role of Art in Society Today” is an educational symposium and an opportunity for artists, arts professionals, government officials, architects, property developers, students and members of the public to come together to discuss issues relating to the creation and presentation of public art. The symposium will raise a range of thought-provoking issues, including what constitutes public art; whether all sculptures and public artworks should be pleasing to the eye or thought-provoking and explore controversial issues relevant to their context; and whether public art should be impactful, educational, functional or serve an exclusively aesthetic purpose.
