The 2018 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp, organised by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be held in July at Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre. Highly acclaimed international musicians will be invited to give orchestral, band and choral training to young musicians, exploring the wonderful world of music in a green setting. Applications are now open for qualified young musicians aged 9 to 25. The music camp will be organised to provide training for about 400 campers, both local and non-local. Camp A will be for music groups of Chinese Orchestra, Junior String Orchestra and Children's Choir from July 15 to 22. Camp B will be for groups of Symphony Orchestra, Junior Chinese Orchestra and Junior Symphonic Band from July 22 to 29. The fee is $1,586 for local campers and $2,290 for non-local campers. To encourage international music exchanges, Parsons Music Foundation, the event sponsor, will offer scholarships to cover the camp fees for non-local musicians with excellent musical standards. Camp conductors include the Resident Conductor of the Macao Chinese Orchestra and Head of Teaching-Research Section for Ensemble and Artistic Direction, Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Sun Peng; the Music Director of the Missouri Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra (United States), Kirk Trevor; the Founder and Director Emerita of Syracuse Children's Choir and former Professor of Choral Music Education, Syracuse University (United States), Dr Barbara Tagg; renowned symphonic and operatic conductor and Guest Conductor of the Metropolitan Opera (United States), Paul Nadler; the Resident Conductor of the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, Peng Fei; and renowned Taiwanese conductor and clarinetist, Lin Shih-wei. In addition, masterclasses, workshops and sharing sessions will be arranged for campers to hone their musical skills. Campers and choir members will participate in two public concerts to be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall and Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall on July 22 and July 29 respectively to showcase their achievements. A day camp entitled "Wandering in Music Day Camp" will also be held every Monday to Friday from July 16 to 27. Organisations, families and individual groups are welcome to visit rehearsals, attend mini-concerts and take part in music games. Day camp participants will also be able to use various recreational facilities at the camp. The fee will be $85 per person per day. A concessionary rate of $62 will apply to children, full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, people with disabilities and minders and participants from subvented organisations registered with the Social Welfare Department. Online applications are now available at http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/musicoffice . Application forms are also available at the music centres of the Music Office. The application deadlines are March 29 for the residential camps and May 25 for the day camps.
