MAISON HUIT is delighted to host the inaugural exhibition in Hong Kong for acclaimed Japanese Master ceramist, Akio Nukaga.
Twenty five years ago, Nukaga established his studio in Kasama, Japan. Since then, the Master Potter has gained a strong reputation amongst his peers and contemporary artists for his distinct ‘pleat’ work and ‘black au noir’ pieces. His unique contemporary pieces that not only serve as vessels for daily use but as art objects.
Most recently, Nukaga exhibited important pieces in the group exhibition ‘Superflat Consideration on Contemporary Ceramics’ curated by the influential Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami at the Towada Art Centre, Japan.
Exclusively at Maison Huit, Nukaga’s specially commissioned series of hand-crafted ceramic objects will include his signature ‘pleat’ pieces - refined folds of clay often coated in rustic ochre, porcelain and cobalt blue washes with drawn ebony lines to accentuate a modern shape and form.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Maison Huit are proud to offer three workshops with Nukaga.
