The musical tells the story of a twelve-year-old New Jersey boy who wished to be “big” and suddenly has his wish granted. Extension and Continuing Education for Life (EXCEL) of the Academy has been running its prestigious Summer Musical School (SMS) since 2001. The three-week intensive training will lead up to six full-scale performances at the Academy Drama Theatre. EXCEL’s SMS has produced Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and staged six shows in the Drama Theatre last summer. The production won the Best Show (Musical) Award and the Best Youth Production Award presented by Hong Kong English Language Drama (HKELD) on 26 September 2017.
