Description
PROGRAMME GUO Wenjing Riding the Wind BARBER Cello Concerto RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Scheherazade The concert starts with Riding the Wind, a compelling symphonic overture written by the world renowned Chinese composer Guo Wenjing to celebrate Hong Kong’s return to China. Principal Guest Conductor Yu Long then partners with the starry cellist Alban Gerhardt in Barber’s Cello Concerto. The concerto is known for its technical challenges and lyricism, a perfect showcase for Gerhardt’s acclaimed cantabile playing. The orchestra takes the stage again in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, one of the classic Russian orchestral works. Let’s revisit the mesmerising stories of The Arabian Nights through the composer’s exotic melodies and colourful orchestration. Yu Long, conductor Alban Gerhardt, cello
