About the exhibition The late-1960s in Hong Kong is also called ‘an intense era’ because of the great disturbance brought to society by the 1967 riots. In response to this, the British colonial government held the Festival of Hong Kong to alleviate distress and foster a sense of identity among Hong Kong people. This is the second exhibition in our ‘Designing the Spectacle’ series. Setting our anchor in Hong Kong, we will explore the role of design in society, its application, function and influence through studying the Festival of Hong Kong. On the occasion that this year is the 50th anniversary of the Festival of Hong Kong, let us look back on the festival’s logo ‘The Ball’, a motif that symbolises the optimism and extraordinary adaptability of Hong Kong people, to bring us some positivity during this difficult time in our society.
We are grateful to exhibit the extremely valuable ‘Festival of Hong Kong’ collection from Designer John Wu. Please stay tuned! Team: 郭斯恆 Brian Kwok, Roberto Vilchis, 吳茂蔚 Clive NG, 邱穎琛 Kiki YAU, 邱玟琛 Ruby YAU
