Description
Aya Gloomy (JP) & Mahne Frame Live at Terrible Baby w/ support from HARU(JP) and DJ Freckles For fans of Wednesday Campanella, Bjork and Japanese pop... Aya Gloomy Born in Tokyo, Aya taught herself music production at the age of 16. Since then she has made a significant footprint in the Japanese worlds of music and fashion. On August 30, her much anticipated five track EP KANJIRU was released after a year of live performances around Japan, both solo and alongside the likes of Yves Tumour, Silent Servant and Kedr Livanskiy. A rhythmic electronic sound that feels familiar while being self-produced and underground, the EP offers us a new window into Aya’s enigmatic mind. In contrast to her previous album which contains a lot of English, this EP embraces all Japanese lyrics which carry intimate and personal feelings but add another layer of allure for those who don’t speak her language. Aya somehow manages to bring something fresh to Japan that still feels wholeheartedly Japanese to those from abroad. She released her first EP Ennui Ground (2017) and her debut album ‘RIKU NO KOTŌ’ (2019) both as 12-inch records through cult Tokyo based label BIG LOVE Records. KANJIRU is her first independent release. Mahne Frame Drumming since age 9, Mahne Frame grew up playing in many Sydney bands before he joined Kirin J Callinan in 2016 to start touring internationally. On drums for Kirin he has done extensive worldwide headline tours, played esteemed festivals such Splendour In The Grass and supported the likes of Crowded House, Mac Demarco and fellow Australian rock band Pond. Mahne moved from Sydney to Tokyo in 2019 and started working on solo material, recording a 4 track EP almost entirely at his local 7- Eleven. The electronic, rave tingled EP titled KISS MY ASS, DEATH and released in September, kicks off a new era of solo performances for Mahne. Mahne will also be joining acclaimed Australian musician Spike Fcuk on drums next year as she begins touring internationally post signing to Partisan Records.
