HKOP Awardees in Printmaking Exhibition 2019-2020 Mirrored Divinity—A solo exhibition by Emily Hung The Japanese book "Truth in Fantasy" discusses a belief which claims that, as long as human beings find their faith in the existence of an animal or object, this deified existence can transcend human beings. With delicate lines and tonal gradations in intaglio prints, Emily Hung imagines herself as animals in folktales and extends the destinies of these animal gods. ARTIST STATEMENT Onibi, which refers to ghost light in Japanese folktales, is a metaphor for myself. In thousands of folklores, moving ghost lights are supporting characters next to deities; they are forced to appear, and then forced to retreat. I gaze at these inconspicuous ghost lights in the crevices of history, hoping to clarify their meanings and trigger responses from our times.

About Emily Hung Emily Hung graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, majoring in Fine Arts. Hung’s obsession with refined details dates back to her childhood. For her, focusing on the details of her craft does not mean painstakingly sticking to a set of rules; instead, it is to deliver the beauty of lines by drawing and etching on copper plates meticulously. HKOP Award in Printmaking In order to encourage young printmakers to show their talents, Hong Kong Open Printshop Award in Printmaking was established in 2018. There are 3 awardees this year: Emily Hung, Avery Lau Hong-lam, Li Ning.
