“In the course of Dancing, from Nightfall to Darkness” is the world of city dwellers caught in the becoming of darkness. They respond to the absence of the light and the invasion of the black through the act of painting, to withstand and resist with their conscious minds, moving bodies and involuntary strokes. The act of creation - at times flowing, at times staying still; sometimes repetitive, sometimes spontaneous – is a process of connecting the outside and the inside. Every painter has her own way of moving her hands and body - her unique dance – is an interaction with time, space and herself, through leaving marks on surfaces. Let’s get through the night. Lulu NGIE’s ink strokes in “It isn't easy to leave” glided through frustrations in the dark and bypassed the heavy stones along the way, while “Dancing without music” is an attempt to breakaway from loneliness in the freest dance. Dancing is salvation. Inspired by music, “I am not going to draw something” is a collection of unconscious marks created by Ivy YUEN’s automatic dance with colour pencils. Ivy MA’s dancer is immersed in the movement of her body, every healing step is a mumble to help withstand the long dreadful hours. The night is evolving. Tobe KAN’s “Root” in the dark woods is surrounded by energetic bodies under the heavy sky, firmly grounded the tree sensed the vibrations and is trembling to move. The sound of late night live broadcasts are stretched, cropped and repeated in Elaine WONG’s “Liquified”, transformed the rhythm of darkness. The exhibition is an experiential journey orchestrated with paintings and media artworks by five artists. The audience are invited to enter from any point of departure, to encounter motion and rhythm from within, among and beyond the imagery. Dance along.
