HKOP Awardees in Printmaking Exhibition 2019-2020 Flipped Trip—A solo exhibition by Li Ning Our memories become fragmented amidst rapid changes. In Li Ning’s prints, fragments of reality intertwine with unknown time and space—which version of the story do you see? Li Ning creates relief prints by first inking and printing linocut plates, then making collages of the prints on paper. He believes that this way of creating gives him freedom, and he often finds inspiration in the composition and rearrangement of pictorial elements. Like a map with multiple timelines, his works compile scenes created at different times and with various odd perspectives. In Flipped Trip, Li Ning takes on the roles of printmaker, storyteller and traveller. Through creating a space that transcends the boundaries of time, he shows us an imagination that interweaves past and future seamlessly, and invites viewers to venture into his printmaking world. Flipped Trip is not only a journey through time and space, but also a time-travelling box. In this unprecedented time of pandemic, the artist asks: can humans escape into this imaginary box and survive?
