低音男中音萊恩．斯比多．格林飾演從寂寂無名到成為世界冠軍的青年拳擊手埃米爾．格里菲斯；低音男中音埃裡克．歐文斯飾演為自己的過往所困的老年格里菲斯；女高音拉特尼亞．莫爾飾演長期與格里菲斯疏離的母親伊梅爾達．格里菲斯；女中音史蒂芬妮．布萊斯飾演酒吧老闆凱蒂．哈根；雅尼克．尼澤-塞甘第二次指揮布蘭查德在大都會歌劇院的作品首演，並與導演詹姆斯．羅賓森及編舞家卡米爾．A．布朗再度攜手製作。
