50CM GALLERY @ Cattle Depot Artist Village 

Highly efficient with the utmost living tempo, squeezing spaces due to the packed crowds… These are the everyday experiences of a bustling city like Hong Kong. The condensing population is inevitable in a world with an inch of land costing a golden price. If we could think about and face such scarce land resources, would we have another perspective? 

The tiny room of 25-year-old Cattle Depot Artist Village, as a public art space, is set up compactly to be a cut-up space for 32 participants of artists. Each has a displaying wall of 50cm in width with a 2.4-meter height. Artists are to experience the indifference of the shifting fluidity of such a 50cm-width gallery, which is closely packed and crowded, allowing audiences to have a brand-new trial or taste in visual language.

The 50 CM GALLERY project involves artists including Frogking, Chau Shik Hung, Robert Loh, Eddy Mok, Vincent Au Yeung, Chan Kwong Wah,  Laurence Lee, Stephen Siu, Cheung 亞洲, Chen Junjiang, Chan Enli, Ding Zhiqing, Chen Fan, Hung Chuan Wa, Aska Tam, Alan Sin, Benny Lau, Wade Chan, YC Leung, Andy Chan, Cheung Yan Wun, Cheung Man Ling, Cheung Yiu Hong, Ma Oi Ka, Tracy Kim, Martin Wong, Mimi Lee, Lavender WOO, Wong Ching Yuk, Vicky Wan, Feng Wenying, TC Chan, George Hou(in no particular order). 

The artworks include calligraphy writing such as Benny Lau’s written copies of Shiqi Modelbook, photographs as  Andy Chan’s Kowloon Wall City, paintings as Chau Shik Hung’s Flower Board and Frogking’s Half-meter cut-up Room. 

The artist's passion for life, creativity outside the box, and integration of various details of life associates bring an alternative viewing experience. Embodied in. In such a cut-up space, artists gather and wonder about a new perspective.

The exhibition duration of 50CM GALLERY  is about one month, from October 5 to 31, 2024. With a localized narrative, the ongoing and changing project means more than an exhibition.  The upcoming event will be updated on official social media.
