Born and raised in Hong Kong, Nic has been writing and performing music in bands since picking up his father’s acoustic guitar when he was 14 years old. Completely self-taught – mainly learning by ear - he found solace and a sense of accomplishment from hacking chords together, quickly learning what structures and chords worked together, and what didn’t. Nic played in several bands in the UK and US (Pep Rally, Sunfactor, The Frequent Sea) opening for and touring with such bands as Pop Unknown, Hot Water Music, Garrison, At The Drive In, and Snow Patrol before returning to Hong Kong five years ago, where he now focuses on his acoustic writing, sometimes playing under the moniker ‘Sojourn’. Influenced by everything from 60’s rock to 80’s hair metal to 90’s punk-pop, Nic’s solo acoustic work lends itself more to artists like the Red House Painters, Mark Kozelek, Nick Drake and City and Colour. His debut self-release ‘The Pacific Northwest’ EP, was recorded in the Summer of 2012. At times both melancholy and hopeful, there are raw emotional foundations to the songs both musically and lyrically.
