In celebrating its two wonderful years of journey in art, Identity Art Gallery takes a step back to review and herald the works by our artists - Abigail Box, Fortes Pakeong Sequeira, Him Lo, Kurt Tong, Jonathan Trayte, Kounosuke Kawakami – and new artists joining us in the past year - Terry Batt, Atsushi Tawa, Nini Sum, Kentaro Kobuke, Timothy Betjeman and Tim Ellis. The 12 emerging and mid-career artists, whose works exhibit in this show, have all been handpicked by the gallery for their unwavering integrity and resolute vision. Together the works reflect our utmost passion in explorations of all things related to identities, whether of a race, of an individual, of objects or of symbols. In this new era of consumerism, it is easy for both an artist as well as an art gallery to sway from its true inner “self” in the name of the status quo. After two years, we are contented to say we have indeed abided by our “identity” and our mission. Over the past year, besides introducing new artists to Hong Kong and producing their first-ever exhibitions in this city, we have been fully committed to the growth of our existing artists. We showcased Him Lo, Kurt Tong and Kounosuke Kawakami’s works at Art Melbourne and brought Terry Batt and Abigail Box’s paintings to Art Taipei. We also produced a solo show for Kurt Tong in Pulse New York, and is about to bring Tim Ellis to Scope Basel. Meanwhile, we are pleased that the works of two of our artists, Jonathan Trayte and Kentaro Kobuke have been acquired by the Franks-Suss Collection. Moving forward, we hope to facilitate further exchanges of culture and identities in this city through original exhibitions and interesting programs and collaborations.
