"King of Punk"
An intense musical experience with grand emotional heft: Goethe-Institut Hongkong is pleased to present the Hong Kong show of Blixa Bargeld, well known as the leader of “Einstürzende Neubauten”, and the Italian composer’s Teho Teardo’s collaborative album “Still Smiling” in the prominent local music live house Hidden Agenda.
After their concerts in Beijing, Wuhan and Shenzhen, Blixa Bargeld will tour to Hong Kong and give one show in Hidden Agenda on April 10, 2015 at 8:00pm. The shows in Shenzhen and in Hong Kong will be supplemented by the performance of a quartet by the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble.
“The man who screwed the whole country”
“The man who screwed a whole country… Are you happy to see me, or is that a gun in your pocket?”: The initial punk era of “Einstürzende Neubauten” might be over today, but their leader Blixa Bargeld clearly still enjoys insurgent messages. This quote from “Come up and see me”, probably referring to the former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, is just one example of the subtle, yet strong criticism of society and lifestyle the album “Still Smiling” provides in 12 songs. Lyrics are visionary, sometimes cryptic, and sung in English, German and Italian. The composition itself is as just experimental: Baritone guitars, cellos, violins and guitars deal with electronics, supported by the quartet. The result is emotionally shaking, predestining the album for the live show.
