內容簡介
Sweet Sorrow is an artistic exploration of the human mind in today’s information age, where feelings of isolation, loneliness, and detachment are common results of overstimulation and sensory overload. Urbanization, noise, crowding, and the explosive growth of information have created an overactive, restless environment that bombards our senses and ultimately numbs us to our surroundings. Set against a dark, chaotic urban background, Shya’s photographs depict bold and striking figures that stand out from their surroundings but remain detached and almost lifeless in their expressions, alluding to the idea that even achieving so-called “success” and “fame” in this era of acceleration is a worthless and empty pursuit. The silver lining is found in Shya’s use of Japanese manga accents and vibrant pops of color, which add life and a playful touch to the otherwise dark subject matter, offering an uplifting glimmer of hope and beauty. The opening reception will be held on the 14th of March from 6pm to 8pm, where tickets will be available for HK$800 each. All proceeds will be directed to HKAHF's Cancer Fund. The sponsors include Hong Kong Tatler, LKF Group and Maximal Concepts. Admission to the exhibition from March 15th to 17th will be free of charge.
ABOUT WING SHYA Wing Shya was born in 1964 in Hong Kong, where he currently lives and works. He graduated from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, Canada. As one of Asia’s most iconic photographers, Shya is renowned for his compelling, sumptuous aesthetic in photography, film, music, and video, as seen in his collaborations with legendary film director, Wong Kar-Wai (Happy Together, In the Mood For Love, Eros, 2046), as well as his directorial work in Hot Summer Days and Love in Space. Shya frequently contributes to prominent fashion and art publications including i-D (UK), Vogue (Italia and Paris), 32c (Berlin), Numèro (France), and TIME Style and Design (US).
