Arham Aryadi (Indonesia): Jampi-Jampi (2017/ 2018) HK Première Chinary Ung (Cambodia/ USA): Still Life After Death (1995) HK Première Zhu Shirui (China): In Umbra - Song of Souls in 4 Instrumental Scenes (2000/2003) HK Première *This new work is commissioned by Hong Kong New Music Ensemble in 2018 with sponsorship from CASH Music Fund 廖國敏 - 香港創樂團首席指揮兼音樂總監 連皓忻 - 女中音 香港創樂團 Lio Kuokman - HKNME Principal Conductor & Music Director Carol Lin - Mezzo-Soprano Hong Kong New Music Ensemble 今年樂季香港創樂團以重新想像、重新思考當今的藝術創作模式為主題，在樂季閉幕之時特別邀請了本地著名女中音連皓忻一同探索當代音樂能如何為包括歌曲、叙事詩、禮樂等聲樂傳統注入新生命。來自四位背景迥異的作曲家，音樂會將為觀眾帶來四首在亞洲傳統與西方現代音樂美學之間角力對話的作品。 香港作曲家許敖山的新作《風的影子》由香港創樂團委約創作，結合當代室樂、現場電子音樂，配合作曲家親自演繹的南音，在傳統與當代、東方與西方的界線間為廣東地水南音尋找未來。印尼新晉作曲家阿爾亞迪於2015年曾獲德國享負盛名的現代室樂團委約創作，取材自西爪哇莊嚴神聖的祭祀音樂塔拉旺薩，新作《爪哇巫師的咒語》繼續發掘自身文化與西方傳統在音樂語言及創作概念的碰撞與融合。曾獲被喻為「音樂界諾貝爾獎」格文美爾古典作曲大獎的美籍柬埔寨作曲家洪靖年，其室樂作品《雖死猶生》以古代柬埔寨祭典儀式為靈感，以佛經誦唱帶領觀眾探索死後的靈魂歸屬。與許敖山同樣以影子借喻創作是跟傳統文化進行對話的呈現，中國作曲家朱世瑞的《靈歌——四個不同編制的樂器舞臺》於2000年由當代音樂聖殿德國達姆城國際音樂學院委約並於當地作世界首演，設定在三個各別不同的文化及歷史時空、以四種語言演唱，樂曲以藝術創作思考文化身份在現今多元文化世界的定義。 As part of our year-long journey of (re)imaging our unique artistic practice, the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble will share the stage with Hong Kong’s leading mezzo-soprano Carol Lin to explore and experiment with the recontextualisation of narrative songs, epic poetry and sacred rituals. Four groundbreaking chamber works by Asian composers will provide a framework to explore the continuum (as well as the fractures) between Asian traditions and modern European instrumental practice. Hong Kong composer Steve Hui’s "Shadow of Wind" is the latest commission from the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, combining contemporary chamber music, live electronics and Cantonese naamyam sung by the composer himself. The work is a daring rethinking of the borderline between tradition and modernity, and East and West. Indonesian composer M. Arham Aryadi, who received a commission by the internationally-renowned Ensemble Modern in 2015, continues his journey of negotiation between the musical languages and concepts of Asia and the West in "Jampi-Jampi". Taking sacred music Tarawangsa from West Java as a point of reference, the sound world of the piece is coloured with a sense of ritualistic grandeur. Award-winning Cambodian-American composer Chinary Ung is a past recipient of the Grawemeyer Award (the Nobel Prize of the music world) and his "Still Life After Death" is inspired by an ancient Cambodian ritual, leading audiences into a transcendent spiritual space through Buddhist chanting. Echoing Hui’s analogy of shadows and the creation of dialogues with living oral traditions is distinguished Chinese composer Zhu Shirui’s "In Umbra - Song of Souls in 4 Instrumental Scenes". Commissioned and premiered by the International Music Institute Darmstadt in 2000, the work is set in three different cultural and historical time-spaces and sung in four languages. In Umbra is the composer’s musical reflection of what cultural identity really means in today’s multicultural world.
